About Us

Always Ready. Always There.

Welcome to the Wisconsin National Guard

Since 1848, the Wisconsin National Guard (WING) has served with pride as a combat-tested, community-based force made up of dedicated citizen-Soldiers and Airmen.
Headquartered in Madison, WING is a joint force under the command of Major General Matthew J. Strub, the Adjutant General of Wisconsin. Our team includes nearly 12,000 personnel, including Soldiers, Airmen, volunteer reservists, and both state and federal civilian employees—all supported by their families.

Our Unique Dual Mission
The National Guard is the only component of the U.S. military with a dual federal and state mission, allowing us to respond to both national defense needs and emergencies at home.

Federal Mission: Deploy trained Soldiers and Airmen to support U.S. defense operations at home and around the world, as directed by the President.
State Mission: Assist local and state authorities in protecting lives and property, maintaining peace, and responding to natural disasters or civil emergencies, as directed by the Governor of Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin National Guard stands ready to serve—anywhere, at any time—in support of our neighbors, our state, and our nation.
