Lt. Col. Bill Benson, commander of the Wisconsin Army National Guard’s 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry Regiment, joins Maj. Gen. Paul Knapp, Wisconsin’s adjutant general, and Dan Durig, a Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs civil engineer, in cutting a ribbon to signify the grand opening of the Wisconsin Army National Guard armory in Appleton, Wis., Sept. 28. The armory recently completed an 18-month, $15 million renovation and expansion that nearly doubled the available floor space and addressed critical needs such as increased storage, training resources, parking and administrative offices. The armory is home to the headquarters company and leadership for the 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry Regiment, whose lineage dates back to the Civil War. Wall displays throughout the armory portray the battalion’s heritage. Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs photo by Vaughn R. Larson
